"We will never surrender to a ragged raffle of Negroes, even if we have to choke the Cape Fear River with carcasses..." The words spoken by Alfred Waddell, an American politician and a white supremacist, who was responsible for leading the coup of 1898 that claimed the lives of Black residents in Wilmington, NC. This work will give voice to the ancestors forced out of their dwelling, and murdered senselessly, forever changing the generational wealth and ownership of property. Themes of: lynching, the river, and displacement are explored
